RECOMMENDATION LETTERS

Please ask four (4) individuals to write letters of recommendation of your behalf. These individuals should be uniquely qualified to evaluate your teaching effectiveness. The recommendations must be mailed to the above address.

The letters of recommendation should commend on the following characteristics of the candidate.

l. Teaching Ability - What techniques does this teacher employ in his/her course?

2. Cooperativeness - How does this teacher cooperate in the school program and/or other academic areas? How does he/she cooperate in community affairs?

3. Inventiveness - What new ideas does this teacher use in teaching? What new devices (particularly appropriate for students) has the teacher developed?

4. Initiative - Be specific. Has failure stopped this teacher? Does this teacher adapt his/her methods to new situations?

5. Student-Teacher Relationship.

It is suggested that the candidate obtain letters of recommendation from a colleague, administrator, parent, and former student. These letters should be sent directly by the recommending person to the OBTA Director and not collected by the applicant.

Statements by the recommending person must be specific. These should give specific examples to support general statements such as, "has good work habits," or "is an excellent teacher." etc.
