Guidelines for Selection
Honorary Membership in the Texas Association of Biology
Teachers is
the highest award that the Association bestows on a living individual.
Those who qualify for consideration shall be considered professional
models
for the membership in general. In addition, each Honorary Member shall
meet the following criteria:
-
Have been active in life sciences education in Texas for at least ten
years.
-
Have been a leader at least at the local, regional, or state level in
life
sciences education.
-
Be well known and respected among the membership of TABT.
By 1 July of the year in which the award will be made, the following
must
be supplied for the Texas Association of Biology Teachers Honorary
Membership
Candidate:
-
A letter of primary nomination from a TABT member.
-
Ten additional supporting letters from TABT members (gathered and
submitted
by the primary nominator).
-
Complete and current curriculum vitae of nominee.
The Honorary Membership Committee, independently of input from the
Board
of Directors, will select TABT Honorary Members. The Honorary
Membership
Committee chairperson must communicate to the president of the
Association,
not less than one month prior to the annual meeting of the Association,
the name of the person selected, or the decision that no selection was
made. If the Honorary Membership Committee has selected a person, he or
she will be named Honorary Member at the annual TABT meeting if
approval
is received by a majority of the Board of Directors. Honorary Members
shall
be given life membership in the Association, with voting privileges, a
plaque, and may also be given a cash award determined from time to time
by the Board of Directors. |
